What is the CLA?

The Community Leadership Alliance of Southwest Wisconsin program provides an opportunity for current & future leaders to become more aware of the dynamics of issues facing our communities and to expand opportunities for leadership. Each session will challenge you to increase your knowledge and become actively involved with community leaders.

How will Community Leadership Alliance benefit me?

Developed in 1999, CLA was initiated to address the need for committed and progressive community leaders. Through CLA, you’ll increase your personal effectiveness, acquire team-building skills and learn more about Southwestern Wisconsin; its heritage as well as its growth and its future. You’ll gain skills to access and provide for the needs of your community. You’ll discover where there are opportunities for your involvement and leadership. You’ll become a more valuable resource to your employer, your community and to Southwest Wisconsin.

CLA has been a true life changing experience for me.  I have always considered myself a leader however the trials and tribulations of my life have taken my leadership to the back burner.  Through the CLA class I not only learned about how to become an effective leader but I also became more aware of who I am as a person.  I recognized what my beliefs are and how to use them to become a more effective leader (without getting burnt out).  The networks that I formed will be part of my life forever.  I am forever grateful to CLA and the contributing sponsors for offering me this life changing opportunity!

Leadership Lessons to Last a Lifetime

On June 25, I had the distinct honor to graduate from the Community Leadership Alliance Program.  CLA is sponsored by the Platteville Area Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the UW-Extension Community Resource Development in Grant, Lafayette, and Iowa Counties, and UW-Platteville Continuing Education.

I had little idea what I was getting into when I was recruited by a  friend, but I know that I left with more confidence in my abilities, solid resources to help me accomplish great things, and a group of smart and motivated new friends to call on for help and partnerships.

The course book Finding Your Voice by Larraine R. Matusak spoke to compassion and self-empowerment in leadership and provided examples of leadership success to inspire even the most lackadaisical citizens to stand up and do something proactive for their community.  To read more visit, http://www.tristate365.com/TriStateHome/ArticleDetail/tabid/1984/Default.aspx?FeatureID=1879

This Program brings community leaders together people from all over Southwest Wisconsin to learn more about ourselves, each other, and our communities.  The activities we go through have taught me a lot about myself and helped to build trust and respect between all of the participants.  The relationships I have formed over the last six months have already been valuable to me in my job by giving me the personal contact with others that have resources I can tap into.  I may not have known about the resources or my new contacts if I had not been involved with CLA.  Thank you for CLA.

CLA is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills and network with people in other communities! CLA provides opportunities to learn about the history and development of communities in southwest Wisconsin.CLA classes were some of the best all day workshops that I have ever attended! There were always a variety of activities and speakers; everyone has opportunities to participate in discussions, team building activities and real-life experiences.
